Róbert Pal Köteles
Everything is in Everything
06 May – 20 June, 2022
Robert Pal Koteles (b. 1975) is a Romanian artist based in Salonta, whose work intricately merges conceptual depth with mathematical rigor. He studied painting at the Arts University in Timișoara from 1993 to 1998, under the guidance of Professor Constantin Flondor. During his final year of study, Koteles established the conceptual framework for his unique painterly techniques, which have since defined his artistic practice.
Robert Pal Koteles' work is characterized by its conceptual rigor and a commitment to exploring universal truths through artistic practice. By using mathematical precision to interrogate visual density, Koteles bridges the gap between abstraction and structure, inviting viewers to reflect on the interplay of form, space, and meaning. His works have been featured in numerous prestigious exhibitions, both in Romania and internationally, and continue to resonate with audiences for their intellectual depth and aesthetic impact.
Koteles employs a distinctive method based on a mathematical principle: the infinite division of the square. This technique serves as a vehicle for exploring the concept of density, forming the foundation of his entire body of work. The process, which he calls Clipa (The Moment), is more than a mere artistic tool. It represents the fundamental condition for the existence of artistic reality itself—a universal principle from which any image can emerge. For Koteles, Clipa is not simply a creative construct but a deeper existential inquiry into the very nature of art and perception.
