Gili Mocanu was born in 1971 in Constanța (RO). He lives and works Bucharest (RO). He completed his studies at the National University of Arts, Bucharest (RO) in 1999 and obtained a Master’s degree in 2000. In 2004 the National Museum of Contemporary Art (MNAC), Bucharest (RO) is awarding him with the Margareta Sterian prize for his works. In 2007 he won 1st prize at Rehau ARTCampus (RO). He participated in numerous group shows: in 2004 he took part in the exhibitions: Atterrissage at the Romanian Cultural Institute, Paris (FR), Transfigurations- Point and from the beginning, at theArt Museum Timisoara, (RO). In 2005 he took part of Minimal Diversions at the Vector Gallery, Iasi, (RO), Nightmare moments at the Centrum Gallery, Graz, (AT), Reflecting spaces at the Rael Artel Gallery, Parnu, (EE). In 2006 he is one of the participants of the The Young Artists? Biennial - Absent Without Leave (AWOL), from Bucharest (RO) and the PLUS ZWEI - Contemporary Art from Bulgaria and Romania exhibition organized by the MKM (Museum Küppersmühle für Moderne Kunst), Duisburg, (DE). In 2007 Kunstraum NOE (Niederösterreich) from Vienna Documenta – Regensburg, (DE) is inviting him to take part of the show called Dont`t complicate the sleeping Baroque and the REPRESSIVE TOLERANCE 4 EVER? from Backyard Gallery, Copenhagen, (DK). The Brukenthal Museum from Sibiu (RO) is inviting him to be part of the Drawing and video exhibition in 2008. In 2010, the Centre for Contemporary Culture – Club ElectroPutere, from Craiova (RO) is inviting him to participate in the ROMANIAN CULTURAL RESOLUTION that took place in Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei, Leipzig, (DE). He produced solo shows at the French Institute, Bucharest (RO) in 2003 with the exhibition Inventory, in 2004 Ohne Technik at H?art Gallery, Bucharest (RO), in 2005 Operating parameters, Art Museum, Constanta (RO), in 2007 the exhibition called CO held at the National Museum of Contemporary Art (MNAC), Bucharest (RO), in 2009 Lih at Point Contemporary, Bucharest (RO), in 2010 Each of those two moments at the National Museum of Contemporary Art (MNAC) Bucharest (RO), in 2013 The double - Galeria das Salgadeiras, Lisbon, (UK), and in 2015 at ElectroPutere Gallery the exhibition called The place of images.
